Perhentian Kecil and Besar, Malaysia

The first time my sister and I saw the Malaysia Truly Asia TV ad, we are smitten. It felt like we really had to be there. You have to agree the commercial was really inviting. One of the highlights in that few minute advertisement is this pristine white beach with a very wide shoreline. Without a doubt we thought it was Islands of Perhentians!

To go to Perhentian Island, we traveled from Clark to Kuala Lumpur, spent an overnight in KL since there are no flights that will connect on the same day. From KL, we traveled by plane for an hour from LCC terminal to Kota Bharu. Upon arrival in Kota Bharu, we hired a taxi to bring us to Kuala Besut Ferry, the trip was a little more than an hour. Then we waited for the fast boat (speed boat) to Perhentian Kecil. So getting there, you need at least 2 days. What an effort just to go to beach.

While waiting in the ferry terminal, I saw many 'speed' boats arriving and departing, on the contrary, it was running slow. I thought we are fooled by the travel agency, instead of selling us the fast boat tickets, they sold us slow boat tickets, as I usually read it in some complaints in travel forums. Now here comes our 'speed' boat, running slow in the estuary. Being first timers on a speed boat, my sister and I decided to sit in front to get the best view of the islands upon arrival. When we reach the open sea, to my surprise, the boat was so fast, so fast that it felt as if the boat is not touching the water anymore. And sitting on the front seat was really a wrong move. Every bit of a bump, or a wave, or a strong wind, you are the first to feel it raised to the 2nd degree. In this case, the first is not always the best.
